When deciding whether to buy carbide blades, there are two main factors to consider: the material being cut and durability.
Carbide band saw blades can cut almost everything from asbestos to zirconium, including paper, plastics, rubber, steel, insulation, aluminum and even food, as well as all types of wood in the world and all wood composites. Of course, almost all types of blades can cut all of these materials, but when you consider precision, finish, tool life and safety, no one blade can do it all.
If you are cutting very hard or abrasive materials, or high surface finish quality is critical, then carbide saw blades are sufficient.
In terms of durability, it is well known that carbide band saw blades derive their durability from tungsten carbide, a powder that is electronically extracted from steel, mixed with a binder material, and then exposed to extremely high pressure and extremely high temperatures to melt. The resulting extremely hard material - carbide - is then welded to the steel blade.
Carbide band saw blades can last up to 10 times longer than regular saw blades without the need for resharpening. If you are cutting hardwood or man-made materials such as particleboard, melamine board, MDF (medium density fiberboard), or laminate, you will be better off with carbide blades in the long run.

Band Saw Blade Length
Determining the correct blade length for your band saw is essential to ensure proper fit, tension, and optimal cutting performance. The length of a band saw blade is the total measurement of the blade's circumference.
To determine the proper blade length for your band saw, follow these steps:
1- Consult your owner's manual or manufacturer's specifications: The easiest way to find the correct blade length for your band saw is to consult your owner's manual or manufacturer's specifications. Most band saws have a recommended blade length range specified by the manufacturer. Using a blade within this range will ensure compatibility with your machine.
2- Measure your band saw: If you don't have an owner's manual or manufacturer's specifications, you can measure your band saw to determine the proper blade length. How to do it:
Release the tension on your band saw's blade and remove it from the machine.
Measure the distance from the center of the upper wheel to the center of the lower wheel (also called the wheel center distance). Note this measurement.
3- Measure the diameter of the upper and lower wheels. They should be the same size. Note this measurement.
Calculate the blade length using the following formula:
Blade length = (wheel center distance x 2) + (3.14 x wheel diameter)
This calculation will give you the approximate blade length for your band saw.
Band saw blade width
The width of the saw blade determines the smallest radius that can be cut.
Determining the proper blade width for your bandsaw is critical to achieving optimal cutting performance, accuracy, and machine stability. The width of a bandsaw blade is the distance from the front cutting edge to the back of the blade.
Wider blades are better for straight cuts, while narrower blades are better for intricate cuts and curves. To determine the correct blade width for your specific cutting task and bandsaw machine, consider the following factors:
1- Bandsaw Machine Specifications: Refer to your bandsaw machine's owner's manual or the manufacturer's specifications to determine the minimum and maximum blade widths your machine can accommodate. This range will give you a starting point for selecting the appropriate blade width for your needs.
2- Cutting Application: The type of cutting task you plan to perform plays a major role in determining blade width. For general-purpose and straight-line cutting, a wider blade is generally more appropriate because it provides greater beam strength and stability, resulting in straighter, more accurate cuts. On the other hand, if you need to perform intricate or curved cuts, a narrower blade width is desirable because it allows for a smaller cutting radius and improves maneuverability.
3-Blade Stability and Deflection: Wider blades are less likely to deflect and twist during cutting operations, resulting in more accurate and consistent cuts. If your cutting task requires high precision and stability, choose a wider blade within the band saw's capabilities.
